Design debate between Samsung and Apple reignites

Samsung made a move that attracted attention on social media after Apple introduced its new products. The criticisms about the design of the Apple Watch Series 10 were especially about the similarity of the watch model to the previous series. At this point, Samsung made a subtle reference to Apple, commenting that the design innovations were limited. However, this move seems to have backfired considering Samsung’s own design history.

Samsung’s design criticism backfires

Apple’s newly introduced Apple Watch Series 10 draws attention with its larger screen, thinner case and new titanium material option. However, despite these changes, the overall design of the watch is quite similar to the previous series. YouTuber Quinn Nelson also voiced this situation on his social media account, emphasizing that Apple did not innovate in design. Samsung, on the other hand, agreed with this criticism and commented, “We didn’t say that, you did.”

However, Samsung’s subtle reference quickly backfired. Users pointed out that Samsung has been using similar designs on its Galaxy series phones for years, and that the company has opened itself up to criticism. In particular, the claims that the upcoming Galaxy S24 FE model will have an almost identical appearance to the Galaxy S23 FE show that Samsung is not much different from Apple in this regard.

Tech giants like Apple and Samsung have been competing with each other in product design for years. Both companies sometimes make small changes to their products, and users often debate whether these changes are enough. While the Apple Watch Series 10 offers significant software improvements like health tracking and sleep apnea detection, Samsung seems to be following similar strategies with its own smartwatches and phones.

However, both companies’ search for innovation in terms of design is eagerly awaited by users. These similarities in design may lead both companies to make more radical changes in the future. In particular, consumers’ constant demand for more innovative and eye-catching designs may affect the speed of developments in this area.
